Kybella Facial Fat Removal is an FDA approved state-of-the-art synthetic injectable form of deoxycholic acid that disables fat cells on the neck and chin to safely flush them out of the injection site over a period time. Once a large number of fat cells have been removed, the area significantly reduces in volume allowing patients to get rid of an unwanted double chin. This creates body issues and problems with self-confidence. Kybella injections are an excellent alternative for patients who prefer non-invasive procedures.
Candidates for Kybella
The presence of excess fat under the chin area creates an out-of-shape, lethargic appearance, even for patients who are generally in good physical condition. A double chin usually comes about due to several factors, such as genetics, weight gain, and the aging process. A strict exercise regimen and a proper diet can’t always change the appearance of excess fatty tissue in this area.
- Moderate to severe double chin
- Prefer non-surgical procedure
Patients need to be aware that some medications increase the likelihood of bruising. Therefore, Dr. Abramson advises patients to stop taking the medications listed below for 4-7 days prior to Kybella injections.
- Motrin, Advil, Ibroprofen, Naprosyn (or same class of anti-inflammatory medications)
- Fish oils
- Vitamin E
- Ginko Biloba
- Coumadin or Lovenox (though you are more likely to bruise if you are on these, we suggest you DO NOT stop this medication, and seek your primary doctors approval).
About the Procedure
All filler treatment procedures start with either a topical anesthetic, an injection of anesthetic, or an anesthetic block to lessen or eliminate discomfort. Once the desired area is numb, Dr. Abramson will inject Kybella under the skin. Many patients experience a meaningful contour improvement of the chin profile after two to four treatment sessions spaced at least one month apart. However, up to six treatments may be necessary to achieve the desired result.
Kybella does not require any recovery time or downtime; most patients can return to their normal activities immediately. As with any injection, there is a risk of bruising and swelling at the injection site and some patients experience temporary redness and/or swelling. This usually disappears within a couple days but can last up to a week.
